Warren County Schools and the city of Vicksburg Schools consolidated in 1989 to form the Vicksburg Warren School District.   The first superintendent was Mr. Edward R. Gilly. The voters of Warren County and the city of Vicksburg were first represented by Grey Ferris (President), Clara Washington (Vice President), Larry Holman (Secretary), John Carlisle, and Rita Wyatt as the first Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees.  The Vicksburg Warren School District has evolved since the beginning.  It is now made up of fifteen schools: two high schools, two junior high schools, ten elementary schools, and one non-traditional with just over 8,300 students.
